We associate strong emotional connections with a landscape that strikes us as memorable, they are life events that we try to hang onto, when we see an image of that place it triggers a past memory, maybe a vague memory, we may not remember the context of that memory but we remember the emotions felt, the light left in the day, the cold or the warmth against our skin. We paint a picture in our mind of that memory with our senses rather than the specific thoughts we may have now forgotten. Our memories warp over time but the place remains the same.
